Does anyone remember that weird burger joint near the Edison campus? I had this memory the other day of that woman with the ridiculously long fingernails who used to work the register & take orders. Remember: her nails were so long they curled around like three times?? I can remember her managing to punch the keys on the register, take cash, make change and not break one of those disgustingly long nails.
How long did it take her to grow those things anyway?!?!

I think it was big Al's or Little Al's...something with Al's in it.
The “soul food” restaurant across the street and through the alley from Edison was called Brother Al’s. My favorite was the wedge cut French fries served in a brown paper lunch sack. They would be so hot you could not hold it from the bottom, especially as the grease would drip through, and they had to be eaten quickly before the grease would weaken the bag and you lost the fries.
Remember the laundramat with the huge candy stand? They had those really long nails as well. How did they function?!?! No memory of the burger joint, but those nails will remain engraved on my brain!
